St Giles is looking for A&E Hospital Caseworkers to provide a high-level service to people aged 11-25 who attend Wolverhampton A&E department. We will work alongside hospital staff to proactively identify vulnerable young people and help them to access and engage the support they need to prevent any potential escalation of violence and reduce the risk of repeat victimisation or exploitation.
Are you a proactive, compassionate and highly organised individual with experience of working with young offenders and/or had personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of Wolverhampton, Coventry or Dudley?
About St Giles
An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.
About this exciting opportunity
As Caseworker, you will be expected to fulfil a broad range of key duties, including assessing referred clients, with reference to St Giles Trust assessment practices, and then producing support plans and risk management plans based on these assessments. You will promote inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process and include appropriate partner agencies in the delivery of the service, developing and maintaining strong relationship with these agencies.
You will also deliver a holistic and practical support service to your assigned caseload of clients, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates, which will include social and housing support, benefits work, debt advice, liaising with utilities and appearing in court. Promoting the value of lifestyle changes to the client group and assisting with providing monitoring information and the evaluation of the project are also key aspects of the role.
What we are looking for:
• Experience of engaging positively with young offenders or challenging people with complex needs
• A clear understanding of safeguarding for children and young adults
• A strong understanding of the effects of violence in an individual’s behaviour, attitude and thinking
• Experience in negotiating with partner agencies to establish links to further the aims of a project
• Sound understanding of anti-discriminatory working practices
• Knowledge of services for offenders and patterns of offending in the service provision area
• The ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written
• A flexible, professional and collaborative approach to your work
In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring program, an advice and counselling service, access to clinical supervision, season ticket loan and much more.
Closing date: 11pm, Monday 29 May 2023.
