Associate Lecturer in Social Work

We are currently looking for a Associate Lecturer in Social Work to join our department.

Department:
The Department of Social Policy and Social Work at the University of York wishes to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Social Work for a 12 month period from July 2022, to provide maternity cover for specified teaching as well as engage in teaching-related activities such as personal supervision and marking.
You will join a large department that is home to over 800 students and 94 staff. You will contribute to teaching on our Social Work programmes most specifically our Law and Social Policy for Social Work module. You will also support the planning and organisation of the provision of professional placements and associated activities.

This post may be suitable for a secondment (subject to employer agreement) and may thus offer an opportunity for career development and diversification for those currently working in practice.

Role:
You will have an existing network within social work practice and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of current issues including law and policy in social work, and an interest in supporting students’ own development objectives via rigorous, interactive learning. You will be a team player who works collaboratively, flexibly and reliably, and will work alongside an experienced and supportive team of colleagues. You will be prepared to contribute to administrative tasks contributing to the internal, strategic management of our activity.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:
You will have a qualification in social work and ideally an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification and Practice Education qualification. You will have specific and up to date knowledge in relevant laws and policies pertaining to social work practice sufficient to lead a module on Law and Policy for Social Work; and sufficient detailed knowledge in social work to develop teaching and provide relevant learning support to students across different levels of academic ability. In addition you will have knowledge of contemporary developments in policy and practice sufficient to provide relevant learning support to students across different levels of academic ability and an understanding of relevant health & safety practices. You will ideally have experience in teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level or in an evidenced similar context; of using different delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students; and will be able to evidence successful planning and designing teaching material. You will have highly developed communication skills, both orally and in writing, the ability to design and deliver teaching material either across a range of modules or within a subject area, supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and assist with learning problems and manage and deliver your own teaching. You will have attention to detail and commitment to high quality, creativity, initiative and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching and learning support, a collaborative ethos and positive attitude to colleagues and students, a willingness to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas/institutions and the ability to plan and prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines.
