We are looking for two Senior Practitioners to work in the MHST's in Morecambe Bay. We wish to appoint people who want to make a difference to the emotional wellbeing of children and young people in schools. We are seeking people who have a relevant professional qualification and direct experience of working with child mental health. The role involves providing evidence based therapeutic support to children, young people and their parent-carers and working in partnership with education settings.
Successful candidates will be employed on a full-time basis to deliver mental health support across a range of educational settings in the areas of South Cumbria (Morecambe Bay).
The service bases are situated in The Hub at Project John in Barrow and Stricklandgate House in Kendal. The service bases for post holders will be agreed following interview and aims to be the base closest to employee's home address.
Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are a national programme jointly delivered with the Department for Education, NHS England and Health Education England. The programme has three main commitments:
Improving health outcomes for children by promoting emotional wellbeing throughout childhood education (5-18) including whole school approach
Timely access to direct support once signs of distress are evident
Ensuring good links between education and specialist mental health services for children and young people
The MHST programme increase children and young people's access to evidence based interventions within education settings with particular focus on early identification and support. The MHS teams provide direct therapeutic care to children and young people who show signs of mild to moderate mental health difficulties, alongside supporting education settings with their whole education approach.
Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing is a key component of Barnardo's Corporate Strategy and Mental Health Support Teams are part of this strategy.
