An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Community Practitioner to join the Children's Safeguarding Team working across Children and Family Health Devon and partner agencies.

Children and Family Health Devon is an integrated, strengths-based service in partnership with children, families, communities and professionals rooted in a desire and commitment to see children and young people flourish and thrive.

The Safeguarding Children's Team are dedicated and experienced practitioners who are accessible and responsive to the needs of individual staff and service areas, providing expert advice guidance and education in the area of safeguarding children and promoting the overarching commitment of Children and Family Health Devon to keeping children safe and identifying when additional help is needed to do so.

The Safeguarding Team work in the Devon Front Door (MASH) and represent the Devon Health Community by gathering analysing and contributing information to the MASH enquiries and strategy meetings regarding the welfare of children and young people.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, providing safeguarding advice and supervision to staff; deliver safeguarding training in order to promote the health, safety and well-being of children across Devon.

Main duties of the job

To provide on-going supervision in Child Protection practice and associated record keeping, to the Alliance staff who have regular contact with children and other staff as required.

To provide specialist safeguarding children advice, information and support to all staff within the Alliance; including when liaising with GP Practice Nurses, Dentists and Pharmacists.

To provide support and guidance to the paediatric liaison nurse as required and provide cover for this function as required.

To contribute to the development of practice and procedures for Safeguarding and Child Protection within the Trust, in conjunction with the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children and the wider safeguarding team.

To provide professional expertise to the Devon Front Door (MASH) and support decision making in the Front Door

The post holder will work according to Standards, Policies and Procedures, set out by the Trust and Local Safeguarding Children Board.

To deputise for the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children in their absence.

To support/provide training, utilising specialist knowledge across a range of practice including nursing, social care and multiagency safeguarding practice, for the Alliance staff, as requested by the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children.

To provide leadership and support to enhance the working practice of all Alliance staff in relation to Safeguarding Children.

To support the promotion of good professional practice.
To work across community and hospital bases as requires.

About us

You will need to demonstrate a sound and current knowledge of child protection roles and responsibilities and have excellent communication and teaching skills. The role will require you to have an ability to promote client care and safety, and ensure appropriate governance and safeguarding processes are undertaken to the highest standard.

The Specialist Safeguarding Nurse role will require excellent communication skills and experience of independent working under pressure, professional support, advice and development will be offered. The post will require travel across Devon to all health bases to deliver the Safeguarding agenda.

Person Specification

Qualifications and training
Essential

- Professional registration with recognised body e.g RGN , RN Child, RMN, Midwife, Social Worker, Allied Health Professional
- Additional post registration qualification at degree level or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years post registration experience with a minimum of 3 years at senior level of band 6 or above
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Child Protection work

Desirable

- ExpeQualification in Clinical Supervision at master's level or equivalent level experiencerience in Teaching

- Clinical Governance experience

- ENB 998 or Teaching and assessing in clinical practice, PGCE or other recognised training qualification.

Knowledge and skills
Essential

- Professional accountability in relation to Safeguarding Children/Child Protection
- Sound knowledge of record keeping and report writing
- Knowledge of diversity & equality issues and their application to Child Protection
- Experience in Safeguarding Children and Child Protection work

Desirable

-Experience in teaching
