World Social Work Day 2023 Conference

About this event

This event has now expired

World Social Work Day has been celebrated around the globe since 1983. This year, @ UN Geneva, #WSWD2023 conference is once again co-hosted by UNRISD, the Fribourg Schools of Social Work, IFSW and IASSSW. The celebration of World Social Work Day aims not just to showcase the achievements of social work and increase its visibility, but also to highlight its synergies with social development: shared commitments to social justice, inclusive development and human rights.

Join us to celebrate WSWD 2023 on Wednesday 15 March, 10 am to 3 pm!

This edition celebrates the social work profession for being a considerable force in demanding respect and defending diversity through the modalities of joint social action. Social work is the profession most equipped to facilitate the global aspiration of “unity in diversity”, looking beyond building tolerance, but rather to celebrating and supporting differences, understanding opposing positions and leading the way towards an opening of possibilities, alternatives and innovation in ideas, policies and practices. The event seeks to:

1. Engage in a reflection of our own representations of diversity
2. Expand our knowledge regarding diversity, paying attention to contextual differences in history and culture of countries and their populations
3. Bring together perspectives from the global North and the global South on ways and methodologies to approach and value diversity in social work and international cooperation

Date: 15th March 2023.
