Job summary

We have a post for enthusiastic social worker to work in our Wirral-based Community Mental Health Teams. You will need to be a qualified social worker with an interest of working in a secondary mental health service.

We are an All Age Adult Mental Health Service.

We have been integrated for many years with our health colleagues and this provides a supportive place and multi-disciplinary team working environment.

You will provide an important and valued professional function working with some of the most vulnerable people in society. Your professional expertise and approach will ensure individual needs and aspirations are always supported, management of risk and safeguarding is of paramount importance.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore you need access to transport.

You must hold aSocial Work Qualification, and be registered with the Social Work England and experience of working.

Main duties of the job

As a newly qualified social worker you can expect to have a capped caseload and be supported in relation to your ongoing development in the area of Mental Health. You need to have a passion/interest in mental health and there will be opportunities in the future to train as an AMHP.

You will need to be compliant with the Social Care Act, Safeguarding, Human Rights Act, Mental Capacity Act and associated Codes of Practice for this this role.

You will work with an integrated team supporting individuals with a severe and enduring mental illness. You will use social work methods to promote positive change, independence and wellbeing in accordance with assessed need, whilst promoting choice and control for adults and carers.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation and ability to apply legislation to practice including the Children Act 1989 and good IT skills to support accurate and timely case recordings.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

Social Work qualification e.g. Degree in Social Work; Dip. SW or equivalent.
Be registered with the Social Work England and able to evidence this.
Continue with professional development in line with Professional Competencies Framework.

Knowledge
Essential

Ability to demonstrate in practice the core social work values and principles
Ability to work with vulnerable people with complex needs and carers
Knowledge of legislation relevant to Adult Social Care and work within these legal frameworks: Care Act 2014; Mental Capacity Act 2005; Mental Health Act 1983; Equality Act 2010; Human Rights Act 1998
Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements
With support, complete safeguarding enquires and making safeguarding personal. Undertaking statutory duties and co-ordinating strategy meetings

Experience
Essential

Awareness of current practice issues and challenges facing Social Workers.
Commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-racist practice.
With support prepare statement or reports for court proceedings. This could include attendance in court.
Ability to work in partnership with individuals, families, carers colleagues and partner agencies both voluntary and public sector.
Ability to arranging support plans and or packages of care.
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
