We are launching an exciting new service across Herefordshire and Worcestershire: Eating Disorder Intensive Support at Home (ED-ISH). We require a Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join this innovative new service. You will be part of an integrated, multidisciplinary team passionate about supporting young people with eating difficulties. We require experienced senior clinicians with a specialist interest in eating disorders, who can deliver time-limited, intensive, person-centred interventions within the young persons home environment. The service aims to provide timely, effective care in the least restrictive setting, helping to prevent unnecessary hospital or Tier 4 admissions, support earlier discharge from acute paediatric wards working collaboratively with keyworkers. This role offers a hybrid model of working across both counties, with flexible working options available. Additional training in eating disorders will be provided where required.

This is a full time role.

Main duties of the job

The role will require:
-Qualification in RMN, BSc/DipSW, BSc OT, RSCN
-Experience in assessment and management of children and young people with mental health and eating disorders presentation, clinical risk and managing own case load.
-The ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels, respecting and valuing others.
-Working flexibly to provide the service delivery need across Worcestershire and Herefordshire (the service operates from 8 am - 8 pm, Monday to Friday, weekends 9-5pm on a rota basis)
-A senior clinician who is able to work with high-risk young people, providing high levels of therapeutic care
-The ability to work autonomously to manage your own case load whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team
-The ability to problem solve and manage time effectively
-Experience of working in a fast paced and varied environment
-There is scope for professional development as developing our workforce is important to us.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

-Highly developed and effective communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to communicate complex, highly personal, and sensitive information.
-Advanced ability to develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship, appropriately with young people and their families.
-Able to communicate effectively within the team and build good sound working relationships
Good presentation and teaching skills; able to use multi-media materials for both formal large group situations and small informal settings
-Ability to use IT equipment including literature searches, data bases, patient information systems
-Able to project-manage changes in relation to clinical practice and/or governance and operational issues
-Able to prioritise own work and deal with competing demands to work effectively, within a highly stressed work environment
-Committed to promote patients right, independence, and choice e.g., through informed consent for interventions

Desirable
-Able to manage change through influence, persuasion, and good interpersonal relationships.
-Able to think strategically; to consider the wider picture for developing specialist services long term and planning developments, which may impact across services

Additional Criteria

Essential
-Able to meet the daily travel requirements of the post across both counties.
-Able to work independently
-Able to work as a member of a team
-Awareness of personal strengths and limitations
-Able to work during the week from 8am until 8pm (working 7.5hrs per day) and weekends 9-5pm, rota basis pro rata

Experience

Essential
-Extensive post registration experience in mental health care including mental health assessment and risk assessment
-Use of therapeutic interventions within mental health settings i.e., 1:1, counselling, family therapy and group work
-Delivering teaching/training
-Providing consultation

Desirable
-Working in inpatient settings
-Liaison across Tier I-IV CAMH Services
-Providing care in CAMHS community settings
-Developing a specialist area on behalf of the Service/ or local Team
-Developing policies and protocols
-Working in a multi-disciplinary Team
-Supervising less experienced

Qualifications

Essential
-Professional clinical qualification RMN/OT/Social Worker etc.
-Evidence of post registered clinical qualifications/training or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of training to a minimum of post graduate diploma level
-Current registration with relevant professional body
-I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Desirable
-Specific qualification in a relevant therapeutic speciality e.g. counselling, Family Therapy, CBT, eating disorders.

Knowledge

Essential
-Working knowledge of Health Service
-Knowledge gained from working in a CAMHS community setting
-Working knowledge of mental health issues in CAMH Services
-Good knowledge of recognised disorders and illnesses in the field of mental health
-Good clinical knowledge of eating disorders
-A good knowledge of own professional guidelines such as NMC/HCPC
-Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with children and families in distress
-Hold an interest in a specialist area
-Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
