Job summary

The Social Work Team at the Evergreen Unit is here to support the clinical and nursing teams undertake their statutory safeguarding responsibilities in line with The Children Act 1989 (2004 as amended) and the statutory guidance 'Working Together to Safeguard Children'.

The successful candidate will provide direct interventions with young people and their families where there are safeguarding concerns and also in relation to clinical work. The expertise of the Social Worker is particularly needed with families and young people where there are complex social care histories, needs or family dynamics.

The postholder will also support young people who require accommodation on discharge and liaise with local Children's Social Care Teams.

This is a 12 month fixed term post (Maternity Cover)

Main duties of the job

To provide social work interventions, complex social learning theory based parenting interventions, systemic networking, social work advise and assessments for children/young people and families

To provide high quality evidence-based mental health assessment of children/young people in Evergreen

To provide safeguarding services for the child/young person and family admitted to Evergreen

To provide mental health input to the network of the child/young person and family, as required.

To work closely with Social Care across BLMK as well out of area admissions.

To participate with the MDT in providing advice and consultation regarding diagnoses and treatment to CAMHS colleagues, external agencies, working autonomously within professional guidelines.

To manage, plan and prioritise own clinical caseload and to exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment, including management of risks. This is done independently within appropriate clinical/professional guidelines.

To provide regular reports on outcome and progress to senior managers and Associate Clinical Director

Essential

A qualification in Social Work and current registration.
Evidence of professional development

Experience
Essential

Experience of effective multiagency working
Knowledge of statutory work with children, including children in need, child protection, children looked after and court work. Knowledge of different types of interventions in family support
Experience, skills and flexibility to contribute to and facilitate effective working within a multi-disciplinary team setting

Desirable

Experience/knowledge of working in a multi-ethnic community and of working with interpreters

Knowledge & Skills
Essential

Knowledge of recent government initiatives for working with children and young people with anti-social behaviour, in education and the community
Evidence of continuing professional development as required by professional guidelines
Knowledge of child development/ mental health issues
Knowledge, understanding and experience with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and families with a high level of deprivation
Ability to provide services in the complex community environment, to meet the needs of clients and families

Desirable

To offer the clinical team and families social work consultation, advice and intervention.
