Job overview
We are currently seeking a Team Manager for Merton Older People’s Community Mental Health Team. We are interested in experienced mental health professional who have previous experience in managing teams or who want to develop their career and have the essential qualities for this post.

The service provides integrated health and social care assessment and treatment for older people with mental illness. The service aims to treat people in the community and in their homes where possible and can arrange any necessary support services from London Borough of Merton. The team can provide access to admission to Crocus Ward on Springfield Hospital site if in-patients care is needed. The team includes doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists and recovery support workers.

Sub teams of the Merton Older People’s CMHT include the Merton Older People’s Intensive Community Support Team (ICST). The aim of this service is to provide support and treatment for patients enabling them to remain in their own homes when they become acutely ill. It is an alternative to inpatient admission and facilitates early discharge from hospital and Merton Memory Assessment Service this service work with people that requires memory assessment and follow up where necessary.

Main duties of the job
You will need to be passionate about improving the quality of care and support we deliver to people with mental health needs. You must be interested in working with external partners to develop supportive networks and have energy, drive and enthusiasm for working with complex and challenging assessments which require clear communication across agencies.

You will be thoughtful and resilient in the way you manage a multidisciplinary staff team in a busy mental health setting with exciting challenges. You will need strong and effective communication skills, and a positive approach to service user and carer engagement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To be responsible for the smooth and effective operational management and co-ordination of the service.
- To work in close partnership with the multi-disciplinary team to actively promoting team working.
- To have regular co-ordination meetings with the team to ensure that the separate elements of team accountabilities are fully addressed.
- To hold full managerial responsibility for staff members (excluding the doctors) ensuring the various disciplines work within an agreed operational policy and providing support and consultation in the process.
- Working closely with the consultant psychiatrist, to ensure that all medically qualified members of the team adhere to operational policies and fully engage in the multi-disciplinary process.
- To ensure that all performance information identified as necessary is collected according to the timescale required.
- To ensure systems are in place to manage intake, allocation, caseloads and clinical review in the team.
- To carry through all agreed procedures in regard to staff disciplinary and sickness absence arrangements. - To work with the Clinical Manager and professional heads of discipline were required to process these issues.
- To promote the Trust’s Equal Opportunities strategy and implement procedures to further this process.
- To act according to the Schedule of Professional Behaviours’

Person specification
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Professional qualification appropriate to mental health or social care
- Evidence of Post Registration and CPD
- Desirable criteria
- Management qualification at Diploma Level
- Educated to degree level or equivalent

EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of health or social care management
- Experience of managing staff and resources
- Experience adult mental health

Desirable criteria
- Project or change management experience

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Ability to manage and deliver effective service redesign and change
- Knowledge of policy development and implementation
- Ability to build relationships across organisational and professional boundaries
- Team working skills
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex data
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage and lead staff
- Up to date knowledge of effective models of mental health and social care provision\
