Behind Closed Doors: Abuse in Care Settings

This webinar explores the topic of abuse in care settings starting off with a focus on older people and elder abuse and broadening the discussion out to the abuse of adults of all ages in care settings, exploring implications for policy and practice.

The webinar will be of interest to members of the general public, NGO's and third sector organisations, health and social care professionals, family carers, residential care and nursing home staff, managers and providers, nurses, doctors, policymakers, researchers and politicians. The line-up of speakers includes;

- Professor Sara Ryan, Faculty of Health, Psychology and Social Care, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, author of ‘‘Justice for Laughing Boy’’ and ‘‘Love, Learning Disabilities and Pockets of Brilliance"

- Eddie Lynch, Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland

- Bernadette McNally, Independent Chair of the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland and Chair of the National Independent Review Panel (NIRP), Republic of Ireland

- Professor Joseph Ibrahaim, Head of Health, Law and Ageing-Research Unit Dept. of Forensic Medicine, Monash University, Australia, author of “Recommendations for Prevention of Injury-Related Deaths in Residential Aged Care Services ”

- Celine O’Connor, Principal Adult Safeguarding Social Worker, IASW member
