How to transition to Independent Social Work (Is it right for you?)
About this event
This event has now expired
If you’re seriously considering moving into Independent Social Work, this in-depth webinar is designed to help you understand what that move actually involves — practically, professionally and financially.
Rather than simply talking about the possibilities, we’ll get into the realities of working independently so you can make informed decisions about what might work for you.
We’ll cover:
-The different routes into independent practice — including self-employment, limited companies, agency work and portfolio careers, and what each option looks like day to day.
-The financial reality — rates, invoicing, tax basics, expenses and how to think about what you should actually charge for your work.
-Finding and building a client base — where independent work comes from, how to find opportunities and how to position yourself so that potential clients can find you.
-Getting the practicalities right — insurance, registration, contracts, record-keeping and the essential admin that can easily be overlooked when you’re starting out.
-Your questions and circumstances — dedicated Q&A time to explore the specific situations, concerns and decisions participants are working through.
You’ll leave with a much clearer understanding of the different ways Independent Social Work can operate, the practical steps involved in getting started, and the questions you need to answer before deciding whether it’s the right move for you.
Ideal for:
Social workers who are actively considering independent practice, as well as those who have already started exploring it and want greater clarity around the practical and financial side.
