Forensic Intensive Support Team have exciting opportunities for experienced Mental Health Social Workers to deliver a statutory social work service to mentally disordered offenders.
Vacancies exist for social workers with AMHP status
Forensic social workers provide a statutory social work to restricted community patients under the Ministry of Justice.
The forensic service is working in a climate of change so requires flexible working practices
You will be joining a Multi-Disciplinary Team providing forensic services to Birmingham and the surrounding regional areas.
Participation in a duty rota for the forensic service outside of normal working hours may be required.
You will have knowledge of Mental Health Social Work and the legal framework of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Criminal Justice and safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
Good written and verbal communication and an ability to prepare and present complex reports in a variety of forums.
You will have regular supervision and opportunities for professional development.
You must be registered with Social Work England and hold a relevant Social Work qualification.
Candidates should have the ability to uphold anti-discriminatory social work practice and maintain clear boundaries in clinical and professional relationships.
Main duties of the job
- Work as a member of MT to deliver social work services to service users and their families within the secure care pathway providing a range of interventions and services to both inpatients and outpatients within the pathway.
- Provide Forensic social work support and guidance to other professionals .
- To attend and participate in the planning and implantation of service users care pathway.
- To ensure communication with the criminal justice system to manage risk and address safeguarding issues. Attendance at MAPPA and MARAC meetings providing appropriate support and guidance .
- To receive safeguarding referrals and liaise with appropriate bodies both internally and externally .
- Undertake specific activities with individual service users and their families.
- Give a social work perspective to the assessment and management of risk, considering the needs of the service user alongside public protection issues.
- Carry out duties relating to the statutory requirements under the mental health Act acting as an AMHP if so authorised.
- Support individuals on the recovery pathway, engaging with agencies and other staff to promote least restrictive environment.
- Contribute to the on-call rota for FIRST.
- Meet the obligations under legislation to provide detailed and contemporaneous reports on individuals as requested.
- Contribute to Birmingham City Council AMHP service including city wide rota as agreed by BSMHFT
